Why we built this
Speak badly. Out loud. To a real person.
An AI chat partner cannot do much for you until you have something to bring to it.
AI is convenient, and that is the quiet problem. It is comfortable enough that you never have to leave the room. It will also never give you the way people really phrase things, the accent, or the topics they actually talk about.
I once watched a friend practising Mandarin with an AI. It was cool. But I was sitting right next to her, and she could have just practised with me.
I studied English for six years at school, then landed in Australia and could not hold a conversation. Three months later I could. Not because I studied more. Because I kept talking to people, badly, until badly turned into normally.
Get the sentences first. Then practise with anyone. An AI, a tutor, the person sitting next to you. We would rather it was the person sitting next to you.
And when you say 「抱歉,我中文不太好」, most people here will answer “your Chinese is great!” We mean it. We are glad you are learning our language.
Nobody gets there by practising alone. You get there by walking up to someone.
